The Pacific Youth Council is a non governmental regional organization that empowers young people to become active citizens and leaders.

We are a platform for the interests, needs and development of young people of the Pacific region.
Welcome to Pacific Youth Councils Website

The formation of PYC was a result of a call by 10 active Youth Councils  to have a Regional Platform coordinating the "voice" and "eeds" for all councils in particular for its members, the young people. The idea of setting up a regional youth coordinating council for the Pacific was initiated by the Fiji National Youth Council in 1975. The idea was shelved, because not many of the countries had established National Youth Councils (NYC) at that time. By 1985, ten National Youth Councils were in place, in Australia, Cook Islands, Fiji, New Zealand, Niue, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Vanuatu and Western Samoa. At the time Tonga had a Youth Workers' Association, Tuvalu was well on its way to forming its NYC, and Kiribati was attempting to set up a Kiribati National Youth Forum. Between 1985 and 1995 a number of meetings were held amongst the National Councils to discuss how to set up, describe the functions and raise resources for a Regional Council. In 1996,

the first General Assembly was held in Noumea, New Caledonia, with funding from the Sasakawa Foundation in Japan, and technical support from the Secretariat of the Pacific Community to establish and endorse the Pacific Youth Council (PYC). PYC was established as a regional voluntary, non-governmental organization for, and made of, National Youth Councils in the Pacific region. Since that time, PYC has had an Executive Board consisting of 8 members that work on a voluntary basis. A General Assembly to elect a new Board is held every three years
