Brief background/history of your National Youth Council

The Council had been defunct for over a decade, in 2007 with funding made available from UNESCO thru the Youth & Sports Division (YSD)of the Ministry of Internal Affairs an interim group of youth volunteers organized alongside the YSD office the inaugural Cook Islands National Youth Forum (NYF). The outcome of this forum was that an interim National Youth council be formed to work towards conducting a 2nd NYF on Rarotonga to ensure that greater involvement and awareness of young people into the revival of the national Youth Council would be obtained. In August of 2008 this NYF resulted in the inaugural endorsements of youth representatives, organizations and partners of the revival of the youth council and an election was conducted with a restructure.
